Sticky Pages and Upside Down Kids

A wiggle in the cushion, a giggle in the dark,
We open up a book to find a prehistoric park!

But wait, the T-Rex has a cold, he sneezes with a thud,
And now the shiny tractor is stuck deep in the mud.

I try to read the sentences exactly as they look,
But someone’s tiny fingers try to fast forward the book.

We skip from chapter two to ten, the hero disappears,
And suddenly a purple cow is flying through the spheres!

A mother does the silly voices, grunting like a bear,
While little hands are busy pulling tangles in her hair.

A father makes the spaceship go *“ZAP! ZOOM! CHOO CHOO CHOO!”*
Because a rocket train is cool, and anything will do.

The pages turn to paper hats, the pictures tell the tale,
We fought a fire dragon and we rode a giant whale.

It doesn’t matter what the words are actually about,
When “Once Upon a Time” is how the bedtime rules go out.

So here’s to sticky pages and the stories re arranged,
Where every single nightly read is beautifully changed.

The wildest worlds are built right here, upon a rumpled sheet,
With two upside down children and four bare, wiggling feet.
