It’s easy to pour one’s emotions into a character in a fictional story, which I have done, but it’s more complicated with poetry. I’ve scraped myself raw in the past writing poetry that dealt with some overwhelming negative emotions, then wished later on I hadn’t bared so much of my internal dialogue.
