Small Acts of Determination

How can you build a regular fitness routine?

How can I build a regular fitness routine?

Well, I could start by researching the best exercises for the areas in which I find the most problematic. Then create weekly exercise regimens that I could follow based on my research. I could pair that with healthy eating options and a self care regimen. I could, but I probably will not, regretfully. I have tried over the years to stay consistent with a exercise routine and it always falls to the way side, trumped by other things that take priority. Perhaps one day I can actually stick to it.

  1. The best thing I did was to buy a treadmill. Having an expensive piece of equipment sitting in my garage pushed me to use it. I started with half an hour a week, it was exhausting but little by little I built up to where I’m using it three times a week with some weight training in between. Just start small, get the small win and build from there. Don’t go hard out right off the bat, you don’t need to exhaust yourself, or lift weights until you ache or anything like that, just use it for 30 minutes once a week until it becomes almost effortless. Do it on the same day at the same time, make it regular until it becomes routine. It took me months but it’s so worth it.

  2. I find contemplative walks useful. I also find random lunges or squats useful to keep me ‘flexible’ so that I can wash my foot in the sink when I inevitably step in something gross outside. LOL
